The World of Perfume
Choosing a perfume, to complement our looks is one of the trickiest but most rewarding experiences. The many options on the market make this process a bit challenging as it is important to know that we usually lose the sharpness of our sense of smell after only three samples. If you don’t find your perfect fit after three samples, than it's best to come back after an hour and try other scents.
Fragrances have three notes, the top, middle and base notes. The top note reflects how the perfume smells once applied and lasts around 15 minutes.
The middle note, or heart note, develops 10 minutes after the top note is applied and around 30 minutes.
Once the heart note evaporates, the base note appears and goes on to linger for a long time. The base note can even last more than 24 hours sometimes.
Perfumery Across Time
The word perfume comes from Latin word "per fumus," means through smoke. The term is currently used to define scented combinations.
In ancient times, perfumes (or smokes) were only dedicated to gods. It is by animal and human sacrifices through burning that perfumery saw the light. Soon after, incense and myrrh followed, gracing millions of altars across the planet.
When flower use for perfumes was discovered, perfumery entered its Golden Age. This rush towards plant-based perfumes got us fruit-based and animal-based scents, such as musk. These scents allow the perfume to hold softer and sweeter notes for longer periods, opening the spectrum for much more complex fragrances.
Our perception towards perfume in these modern days has evolved. We are always looking for the perfect scent for us and have gone through a myriad of trial and error phases, trying to recreate scents through chemistry. These perfumes now travel all around the world to enchant lasting Sillage customers. Sealed in wonderful bottles, labelled and tagged, perfumes now leave a trail of Lasting Sillage that engulfs its owner in smokes meant for the gods.
