Choosing a perfume, to complement our looks is one of the trickiest but most rewarding experiences. The many options on the market make this process a bit challenging as it is important to know that we usually lose the sharpness of our sense of smell after only three samples. If you don’t find your perfect fit after three samples, than it's best to come back after an hour and try other scents.
Fragrances have three notes, the top, middle and base notes. The top note reflects how the perfume smells once applied and lasts around 15 minutes.
The middle note, or heart note, develops 10 minutes after the top note is applied and around 30 minutes.
Once the heart note evaporates, the base note appears and goes on to linger for a long time. The base note can even last more than 24 hours sometimes.
However, there is more to unlocking the mysteries of the perfect fragrance fit for you.
You can chose the perfume according to the brand you want to identify with, allowing you to have your own signature scent. Nevertheless, you are limiting yourself to one single scent away from exploring perhaps more fitting fragrances. As an ideal go-to perfume, the best way to cover all occasions is to find three perfect scents.
Second, know your skin type! Dry skins do not hold fragrances too long and it is best to spray your perfume on right after shower. As for oily skin types, they are the lucky ones as the scent will stay on for longer.
When opting what to wear to events, be mindful of the location of the occasion. If it is an indoor event, choose a light scent. If it is an outdoor event, the sky is your limit, as the smell will not cloud the air heavily.
When shopping for perfumes, you have to know that Parfum contains the highest concentration of fragrant essential oils and lasts for at least 6 hours. Whereas Eau de Parfum, much less potent, is considered as the very popular type. It contains a lesser concentration of essential oils and its scent lasts up to 4 hours. As for the Eau de Toilette, it contains tiny amounts of essential oils and lasts merely 2 hours.
